Art photography

Artist portraits in the studio and beside the work.

Artists photographed where the work is made: at the easel, at the bench, among the tools. For catalogues, press, monographs and gallery websites.

What we photograph

Artist portraits

For artists, galleries preparing a show, publishers and institutions. A portrait that says something about the work, not only about the face.

In the studio

The artist at work, with the tools, the light and the mess of the studio.

Beside the work

In the gallery or at the fair, with the work in the frame.

Press portraits

A clean head-and-shoulders set for interviews and catalogues.

Process

Hands, materials and works in progress, for books and the artist’s archive.

How it works

From brief to final files.

  1. 01

    A call

With the artist or the gallery: the work, the studio and the use.

  2. 02

    A visit

We see the studio first if we can, to plan the light.

  3. 03

    The session

Unhurried, around the artist’s working day.

  4. 04

    Selection

The artist approves the images before they are released.

Questions

What galleries, collectors and artists ask.

How long does a studio session take?

It depends on the artist and the use. Most sessions are planned around the artist’s working day, so they can keep working while we photograph.

Does the artist approve the images?

Yes. The artist, or the gallery on their behalf, approves the selection before anything is released to press.

Can you photograph the works at the same time?

Yes. Works in the studio can be photographed on a colour-managed set during the same visit. See artwork photography.

Who holds the rights to the photographs?

The artist keeps the copyright of the work itself. We license the photographs to the gallery, collector, institution or artist for the uses agreed in writing, such as press, catalogues, insurance and online sales.

Do you work outside Dubai?

Yes. We work across Abu Dhabi and every emirate, including Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and travel to fairs, collections and studios abroad on request.
