What we photograph

Artwork photography

Also called fine art or art reproduction photography: a faithful, colour-managed photograph of each work, made once and used for years. For collectors and family offices, galleries, auction houses, artists and their estates, publishers and insurers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the UAE.

Paintings and works on paper

Flat, square and evenly lit, with the colour of the original.

Sculpture and objects

Several angles per piece, with the form and the material readable.

Reliefs and textured surfaces

Lit at a low angle when the surface is part of the work.

Editions and prints

Prints, photographs and multiples, each identified to its edition.

What the files are for

One shoot, files for every use.

  • Front, back, signature, labels and frame
  • Close-ups of the surface and any existing damage
  • Files named to your inventory numbers

Online sales and viewing rooms

Images that sell the work when the buyer cannot see it in person: online viewing rooms, auction listings, private sales and press.

  • Clean, cut-out or in-situ views
  • Web versions sized for viewing rooms and listings
  • Scale views beside furniture or in the room on request

Method

How each work is photographed.

Colour reference

A colour target in a reference frame for every lighting set-up, so the file matches the work.

Glazing and varnish

Lights angled and polarised to remove reflections without flattening the texture.

Metal and glass

Diffused light for polished metal, glass and reflective sculpture.

Resolution

Full-resolution files for print, plus web versions, in the formats your printer or platform asks for.

Questions

What galleries, collectors and artists ask.

What is artwork photography?

A precise photograph of a work of art, made to reproduce it faithfully: square to the camera, evenly lit, with true colour and the texture of the surface. It is the image used in catalogues and books, insurance and condition records, and online sales.

How accurate is the colour?

Each set-up is photographed with a colour reference target under calibrated light, and the files are delivered colour-managed, so reproductions match the work as closely as print and screen allow.

Can you photograph glazed, varnished or reflective works?

Yes. Lighting is set for each surface, including glass, varnish and polished metal, to remove reflections without flattening texture.

Can you photograph a collection at home or in storage?

Yes. We bring a portable set and work wherever the collection is, including private residences and free-zone storage, under your NDA if required.

Will you move or handle the works?

No. Works are moved by your registrar, your art handlers or the owner. We set the lights and camera around them.

Can you photograph a whole collection for insurance?

Yes. We work through your inventory, photograph the front, back, signature, labels and any existing marks of each work, and name each file to its inventory number.

Can you photograph works for a catalogue or a catalogue raisonné?

Yes. Every work is photographed with the same light and colour reference, so the plates are consistent from the first page to the last, and files are named to your catalogue numbers.

Is it priced per work?

Every commission is quoted individually, from the number of works, their size and surfaces, the views needed and where they are.

Who holds the rights to the photographs?

The artist keeps the copyright of the work itself. We license the photographs to the gallery, collector, institution or artist for the uses agreed in writing, such as press, catalogues, insurance and online sales.
